Manual Pallet Jack Inspection Checklist

Having a pallet jack safety checklist is important for the safety of your employees. It is also important to maintain an efficient workflow. Without a pallet jack inspection checklist, something could go wrong while moving a heavy load. This could cause injuries to a person, or damage to product or property, which could lead to unnecessary expenses. Here are 5 important items for your pallet jack checklist:
  1. Clean and clear warehouse
  2. Inspect pallet jack wheels
  3. Inspect pallet jack forks
  4. Inspect pallet jack hydraulics
  5. Inspect handles, levers, and controls

Clean and Clear Warehouse Floors and Outdoor Loading Areas

Check your warehouse floors and outdoor loading areas to make sure the workplace is clean and clear of any obstacles. Make sure that debris and spills are cleaned and swept up so that your operating environment is safe for your equipment to operate in. Debris and spills can ruin or shorten the life of your wheels or get in the way of your loads.

    Inspect Pallet Jack Wheels

Inspect the wheels on your pallet jacks and forklifts regularly to make sure that they are rolling easily and that there are no flat spots or delamination. Over time, the poly or rubber on your wheels can crack or wear unevenly resulting in unstable and unsafe loads. This can cause additional stress on your machine and on your workers' hands and arms due to vibration and rolling instability. We offer convenient Wheel Kits for manual pallet jacks and electric lift trucks.

    Inspect Pallet Jack Forks

Have you looked at the forks lately?  Make sure there are no cracks or damage as the forks bear the brunt of the load. Using a damaged jack can cause a load to shift and fall and may damage products or cause injuries to your workers.

    Inspect the Hydraulic Pump

Check the hydraulic pump for leaks and make sure that it is operating properly. Does it pump up and hold your load? Does it lower safely? Having a faulty hydraulic pump can drastically affect your workflow as it will not lift, hold, or lower your load properly. Fast Lift Parts has an inventory of hydraulic pumps if yours needs replacing.

    Inspect Handles, Levers, and Controls

Go through and test the handles, levers, controls, and horn where applicable. This will ensure the parts are in working order and give you confidence in safe use of your pallet jack.

This list is important to do every so often, especially before a busy season. However, it is best to use this as a pallet jack daily inspection checklist. Any damage or wear and tear can happen at any time. Checking your pallet jack regularly will prevent injuries and damage. Keep your pallet jack in working order, your employees safe, and your facility and product damage-free.
